Since January 2024, Chester College International School has been part of the Eco-Schools Programme, an international initiative promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This program aims to promote environmental education and sustainability in schools by involving the entire school community—students, teachers, families, and staff—in implementing eco-friendly practices.
What Is the Eco-Schools Programme and What Are Its Goals?
The Eco-Schools Programme encourages schools to become more sustainable and environmentally aware. It focuses on the following key areas:
✅ Raising environmental awareness: Encouraging reflection and action on global and local environmental challenges.
✅ Fostering sustainable habits: Promoting responsible behaviors such as energy conservation, recycling, and responsible consumption.
✅ Engaging the entire school community: Students become active change agents in environmental improvement projects both inside and outside the school.
✅ Integrating sustainability into the curriculum: Environmental education is incorporated into different subjects to raise awareness from the classroom.
✅ Reducing the school's ecological footprint: Implementing concrete actions to make Chester College a more sustainable environment.
How Will the Programme Be Implemented at Chester College?
The program requires each school to create an Eco-Schools team, consisting of students from different grade levels, families, and teachers. This team will design and implement an action plan with sustainability-focused activities throughout the school year. In three years, the School will aim to obtain a so-called "Green Flag", based on its journey till then.
We feel fortunate to have a privileged natural environment, which inspires us to promote these kinds of initiatives. 🌱
Follow Us on This Green Journey!
We are excited to embark on this path toward a greener, more eco-conscious school. We will be sharing updates and activities on our blog and social media.
