There are some achievements that are especially meaningful because they reflect years of quiet dedication, shared effort and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
We are delighted to announce that, following two years of sustained work, Chester College International School has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag, the highest recognition granted by the international Eco-Schools programme.
More than an award, the Green Flag celebrates the commitment of our entire school community—students, staff and families—to building a more sustainable future through education and everyday action.
Learning in the Heart of Nature
One of the things that makes Chester College truly special is its setting.
Located on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela, our campus is surrounded by extensive green spaces, including almost three hectares of woodland, playing fields and outdoor learning areas where a rich variety of trees, plants, birds and wildlife thrive.
For our students, nature is not something they visit on occasional field trips. It is part of everyday school life.
Walking through the grounds, playing outdoors or simply observing the changing seasons helps children develop a close connection with the natural world from an early age. We believe that caring for the environment begins by learning to appreciate it.
What is the Eco-Schools Green Flag?
The Eco-Schools programme is the world's largest educational initiative dedicated to environmental sustainability. Coordinated in Spain by ADEAC, it brings together nearly 59,000 schools across 74 countries, encouraging young people to become active and responsible citizens through practical environmental action.
Receiving the Green Flag is the result of a rigorous process that recognises schools for embedding sustainability into daily school life and engaging the whole community in environmental improvement.
A Shared Commitment
Over the past two academic years, our students and staff have worked together on a range of initiatives designed to promote environmental awareness, responsible consumption, biodiversity and the sustainable use of resources.
The greatest value of this journey lies not only in the projects themselves, but in the habits and attitudes they help to foster.
At Chester College, we believe that education is about much more than academic achievement. It is also about nurturing curiosity, responsibility, respect for others and an understanding that even small daily actions can have a positive impact on the world around us.
Looking Ahead
Receiving the Eco-Schools Green Flag is both a wonderful recognition of what has already been achieved and an encouragement to continue moving forward.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who has contributed to this accomplishment.
The Green Flag will soon be flying proudly on our campus as a symbol of our shared commitment to environmental education, sustainability and the care of our common home.
