At Chester College, we are committed to continually reflecting on and evolving our teaching methods to incorporate the latest in international research, trends and practices. Our long term affiliation of the Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS), of which we have been a member since 1994, is crucial to this goal, and their annual conference is a highlight of the school year.
This year, two staff members from Chester College I.S. attended MAIS’s 2019 Annual Conference, which took place in the beautiful city of Rome in early November and was centered around the slogan “I came, I saw, I learned”. The conference provided a wonderful opportunity for delegates to learn from experts in the fields of student assessment, curriculum development, and speech development.
Susana Veiga, Head of English and History at Chester College, attended a two day professional development course on Expository Reading and Writing. Facilitated by a group of experts including Dr Nancy Brynelson, Co-Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Reading and Writing at California State University, and Lisa Benham, the Director of Fresno County Schools, the course focused on strategies for an inquiry-based, rhetorical approach grounded in deep conceptual understandings for grades 7-12.
Our delegates have returned to school energized and full of lots of ideas about how to implement their new understanding and strategies for the benefit of our students!
